The Psalms are joyous to read in time of trouble

Lately, as far back as I can remember, we have been struggling financially. I read the Bible as often as I can and have just started reading the Psalms again. David was the king of Israel and he faced so much trouble and turmoil, and the Psalms he and others wrote really have helped me to be able to get through this time. I believe this is because I am able to relate to what they wrote, especially with the socialistic agenda of our president and government.
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that does good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that does good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? Who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD brings back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. Psalms 14:1-7
How true those words are! I used to be one of the fools, not believing God and what He says about His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. How true they are about all of us before we believe that or God, Jesus Christ, died for our sins, was buried, and rose the third day. The beautiful thing is that He did do just that and now we can be forgiven of our sins by just believing the gospel above. God is so merciful and kind to allow us to have away to avoid the punishment for our sins in the fires of Hell.
Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law does he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Psalms 1:1-6
These words were driven home as I read them for the first time after 9/11/2001. I was then a new born again Christian and was glad, as I still am now, that I was no longer the chaff.
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.
LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But you, O LORD, are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head. I cried to the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. I laid me down and slept; I awoke; for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for you have smitten all my enemies upon the cheek bone; you have broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongs to the LORD: your blessing is upon your people. Selah. Psalms 3:1-8
In these troubling times I am in I find comfort in these words. I am not trying to escape an enemy like David, but the temptations of life are all around me like an enemy surrounding me. Making me feel like I should give in and become part of the crowd of the lost. I need to remember that the Lord is my shield and that with His help I can stand strong through these dark times.
As a saved person I have an advantage now that I didn't have when I was lost. When we repent of the sin of unbelief we are baptized and indwelt by God the Holy Spirit. In the gospel of John, Chapters 14-16, Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the comforter and how true that is. To this day I still don't know how I got through my unsaved life without Him. I am so glad that God is with me now and forever. I can only imagine what it is going to be like when it is my turn to join Jesus in Heaven.
The world tries to paint a picture of heaven being an awesomely beautiful place with millions of bored people standing around with nothing to do. They try to say that Hell is the place to be, one big everlasting party. I believe that that is so far from the truth. God has plans for all that are with Him and we will be so busy serving Him that there won't be anytime to be bored. As for Hell, I am glad I won't be their forever burning for my sins. The Bible teaches that those who do not believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be their, cut off from God, with no hope of escaping the torments of the fire that burns but doesn't consume.
Praise be to God!
